UFO Finish!!

For months I wove away on the red warp on my loom.

Finally, after weeks of languishing on the loom, I figured no little weaving elves were coming to finish off the towels!  Sit yourself down and do it, me said to myself!!

Just throw the shuttle!  And yes!! You can see the end of the warp—what a great feeling.

Pull off the warp—measure, cut, sew the ends to prevent raveling,  throw in washer and agitate.  If these are going to fall apart, I want it to happen in my washer.  Alas. Ten Beautiful cotton towels were ready to be hemmed.

These little clips come in handy.  I had always used straight pins but clips is the way to go.  No pin sticking you!

This one towel had a broken warp thread.  Using a needle to weave this warp thread back in place.

The towels are all hemmed ready for gift gifting!
Oh happy day!
And the loom is ready for another warp.

mystery dinner?

The weather is turning cooler--ah, I think it could be Autumn in our area soon!  There are necessary chores to complete, Projects to work on.  And, of course, meals to be planned--the least favorite thing I have to do each and every day!!

let/s play a game--solve a mystery!  This is a mystery dinner but not the one where you play different roles to solve the murder--no, the one where we pull a frozen package out of the freezer and try to guess what it contains!  There are so many times when I chuck leftovers into a container and shove it into the freezer--no marking on the contents --that would be too easy!  Just put in the freezer and wait till you pull it out several days or weeks later.

Once, you pull the mystery container from the freezer and thawed, you can see the fruit of your labors---okay, let's see what we have here................................tonight it was chicken with pieces of  tomatoes dotted over the meat.  We have solved one of the pieces of the mystery.  Now, to decide what to do with this chicken covered with tomatoes.

Thumbing throught dozens of recipes, the decision is made--an easy casserole--#tayinstyles posted her version.  I'll go with the basics but will add other items to make it just a little more spicy.  I found some chopped onions; small jalapeƱo and zucchini ( looks like on its last legs)in refrigerator. Added these to the mixture. There wasn’t quite 2 cups of chicken; for more protein, half a can of black beans was mixed in.

Finished dish!  was delish!  loved the simplicity of assembly and taste of #taco Tuesday!
Thank you #tayinstyles for your delicious recipe to apply to my mystery freezer container.

Wonder what mystery abounds tomorrow night?

New Projects

Of course!  I just needed to add more projects to the already laden pile!  But, these will be fun and it’s called progress, isn’t it?  And maybe, there will be a goal reached

#monsterkal2025 begins Sept 15 and ends October 31–in my case,  this kal will run to end of year!!

Why you ask?  Who doesn’t have a mountain of tiny yarn balls!

Leftover yarns from sock and hat knitting.  love this stash of earleygirlsyarn!  I'm sure that most knitters/crocheters have stash yarn aplenty!

Here’s a reason to dig into that stash—#monsterkal25
Doesn’t matter what you want to knit, join in and see what how you can diminish those yarns into something useful.
Beginning another Musselburgh hat—this is the hardest part.  I need to try a different method of beginning so the center is closed.
Little further into the start!  Once past the increase of stitches, it will be just KNIT!
And so it grows!

At this point just two yarns are being used

Then I can begin on socks

Library Socks designed by Kitchen Sink Shop
There are plenty of sock yarns in the stash basket!
What will you knit with your stash yarns?

No Way!

No Way!  Am I going down that 'rabbit hole"!  I keep telling myself that--there are so many other projects to be finished--why should I look at more knitting challenges that would add to my list?

BUT--I did take a look at my blog Reading List--every once in awhile, I browse through these listings to see if any are not posting, then I can update.  In other words—delete!  Of course, then I start looking at other current blogs!!  Gee whiz, I went off the deep end AGAIN!  entertaining  for sure--still not working on my current projects.

It's now September, I've not knit many hats to send off first of the year to charity--oh well, let's add more projects to the already unfinished list...

Liked the simplicity of his pattern and color is involved--I've got the yarn already.

Stupid Easy Cable Hat by Cheryl Pelletier (found on Ravelry.com)

There are always times you want to practice your stitches and cables can be a real pain in the arse
Good pattern to work out that situation anger!

Time to revisit a favorite--Mussellburgh designed by Ysolda Teague
Once you have the set up, there is nothing but knitting till the end.  Perfect to use up small amounts of yarn.

Barnstable by Lisa Hunnes  I signed up for this free pattern few weeks ago--looks to be from 2017.
doesn't matter--haven't knit this before so add it to my winter weather knitting.

And for some fun knitting--a wash cloth for my friend's baby shower, designed by Garlene.   New Mom loves Shrek--this will be added to her pamper me gift after baby is born.  I'm knitting with handspun green cotton--it's mostly seed or moss stitch pattern.

Okay--I'm climbing out of the Rabbit Hole now!

Two B’s In Action!

Is playing in my ear as I assort my Baking items—can’t help but bake when the book’s character is baking delicious recipes!  How About Madeleines?  Never have I made this recipe
These pans are so pretty--I'm sure they will make lovely madeleines!   The grandkids are coming to visit this week; this will be a good treat for them.

First in Bakeshop mysteries series.  A woman returns to her hometown to help mom at the family bakery.  And of course, becomes involved in a murder! and then--the handsome investigator shows up--her high school sweetheart!  Oh My!  it is a cozy read with a bit of romance thrown in.

Here we are 1835 London.  Eliza wants to be a writer of poetry.  Unfortunely. the publisher doesn't need more poems--he wants cookbook.  Her assistant Ann form a bond to create a cookbook, even though Eliza doesn't cook!  This is based on true story of first modern cookery writer.  Interesting recipes--none I would prepare!  good read though and peek into historic English kitchen with interesting recipes.

This book is telling me--"bake scones"
Setting--small town North Carolina.  Cast--a group of town 'misfits'.  Plot--join this society, you must tell your deepest darkest secret!  There is a bookshop involved along with a murder!
Listening treat as you eat scones.  I made the blueberry/lemon scones--

now, I've got to visit grocery store for Clotted Cream!  Here's a recipe if you are so inclined!
Me, I'm adding jar of clotted cream to my next shopping adventure!

Hand Work

Dinner:  chicken in the pot cooking away

There are several recipes—I like to use this recipe since it doesn’t contain canned soups.  This will make enough to feed 8-10 people!  There only two of us—servings will be portioned and frozen for future quick meals.

Before I begin my handwork.
I grab cup of coffee ( thankful for hubby who brewed a pot before he headed to mow ranch pasture) And a slice of this naughty Danish Kringle!!
First, my handwoven SHIFU towel is ready to be hemmed.

Then I’ll tackle more hexagons

I use two sizes

There is the big bag of finished large hexagon blocks—these are to be added to the top begin months ago

Loving this heart shape—when I have time, I add fabric to the shapes to be hand stitched later. These little clips are handy!
What a perfect day!

Hand Spun Yarn

It’s time to knit!  Using my hand spun yarn, another section to my scarves will be added.  This year two different lace patterns are taking shape.

Elizabeth Ravenwood’s Estonian lace pattern arrives mid month.  Taking the previous scarf section from their shelter, we begin.  Yarn is a mystery fiber that was received several years ago from estate offering.  Now is the time to label your fiber content—so this won’t happen to your stash!  I could do a burn test to find out fiber content—feels like silk, so going on that assumption, stitches are applied!  It’s all good anyway!  I’m paying homage to the fiber owner.

Just perfect—
I found the right shade of beads in bead cabinet and we took off on this lovely adventure January 15, 2025–sometimes the designer will release a couple of days in advance—
Using Knit Companion on my tablet is a big help!

The second scarf begins first of the month with Shetland lace patterns designed by Toni Lorenz—I enjoy her designs and try to participate each year in her lace projects.

This year the pattern was unique and unusual construction
Each month branches off in angles forming a V in middle

Picking up stitches off previous section to knit another branch.  Each section features different Shetland lace design

When this is blocked, there will appear a delightful shawl to wear in cool weather.
It takes my diligence to keep on track to knit from first of month to 15th—do not want to fall behind!
Knit on hand spun is a joy!
